Claire graduated in 1980 with an Honours Degree in History from Ripon & York college. Claire qualified as a Blue Badge Guide in 1990 having being trained and examined on national knowledge, in-depth local knowledge and in the selection and presentation of materials and other guiding skills. Since then she has built up a wealth of experience and knowledge to help people enjoy their holiday (whether it be a coach tour, a half day guided walk or a multiple day tour).

She has travelled to most corners of the UK, providing guided holidays from Scotland to Cornwall; and, with husband Dave, to most corners of the world on a variety of self-guided trekking adventure holidays (Borneo, Nepal, Peru, Chile, Spain).

Claire is a member of The Guild of Registered Tourist Guides, the professional association of registered and officially authorised Guides within the British Isles, and of The Cumbria Tourist Board.

When not Guiding, Claire enjoys history, natural history, walking, golf, orienteering and mountain biking .. below is a great shot of Claire on her bike taken on a cold winters day .... !



Dave graduated in 1980 with an Honours Degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for a large, multi-national pharmaceutical company for nearly 20 years as a Chartered Engineer and Team Manager, taking early retirement in 2004 to work with Claire and setup Guide Outside Ltd.

Committed to helping people enjoy their Holidays, in his spare time Dave enjoys leading Guided Mountain Bike rides around the valleys of The Lake District, and Walking on the Lake District mountains. He also loves skiing, golf and travelling to distant countries to explore them.
